Thy Will be Done: Election 2016

Politics is one of the three things my father taught me not to discuss as a topic of conversation with others. So I try to restrain from this topic when I can. Each election I always ask the Lord for His instructions regarding my part in the electoral process and I follow His instructions. This election cycle has been one for the record books. I have watched and listened to the candidates, as well as others and their opinions. I have seen the back and forth on Facebook and other social media about the Democrats and the Republicans. I have witnessed this election cycle bring out the true hearts of many, whether good or bad. The Lord has instructed me to remain silent regarding this election season until now.

Many people are disenfranchised on the two choices, not knowing which candidate to vote for. Voters feel powerless for being left with Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump as the only two main choices. Let’s face it, neither candidate is trustworthy. Both have been caught lying and, their morals and integrity are very questionable. Additionally, the track records of these candidates are shady at best. Usually we hear the saying “Picking the lesser of two evils,” but this election cycle goes far beyond that saying. So, what do we do in this awful dilemma? There is only one answer, search out the Lord’s divine counsel, get understanding in His word and obey His instructions!

First we need to understand that the will of God is first and foremost in all things. Matthew 6:9-10 states, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.” In verse nine, we recognize the Lord in prayer, as our heavenly Father that we revered as holy, sacred and sovereign. Right after the acknowledgement of who the Lord is, we are to pray for His kingdom and will to come here to earth just as it is in heaven. Therefore, agreeing with the Lord that His will is the most important in all the entirety of creation.

Secondly, the Lord places and assigns all principalities. In Daniel 2:21 he states, “And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Romans 13:1-2 also states, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” Here we see that in the Lord’s sovereignty He has an ordinance, a decree, that all authority here on earth is given only by Him.  Therefore, there is absolutely no one in any governing position that the Lord did not place there Himself. Even Jesus recognized His Father’s ordinance when He spoke to Pilate. John 19:10-11, “Then Pilate said to Him, “are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” Vs.11, “Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” Jesus did not resist Pilate because of the authoritative position that was given to him by the Lord. Jesus was honoring His Father’s ordinance knowing that He would be disobeying His father’s will if He didn’t. We as believers must have the same mindset as Christ and honor and respect the authority the Lord has given to those in governmental authority.

Thirdly, the Lord chooses and places all kings/presidents in the nations of the World. As previously discussed, we know that the Lord places all authority. But does that mean that all authority will have the heart of God? Let’s look at the Lord’s word concerning this.

Romans 9:14-23, “What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory.”

Here we get a clearer understanding that the Lord distributes and appoints His authority, mercy and compassion as He sees fit. The Lord Himself is not unrighteous; however, there are some who He has placed that are vessels of dishonor. Why? In order for His will and purpose to be shown, so He can get the glory. This is why we see the Lord’s word (Bible prophecy’s) coming to pass in our lifetime. Also we have to remember that the Lord has given all of us the right to choose freely. So, although the Lord has placed the people in authority, it is up to them to make the right choices.

Isaiah 46:9-10, “Remember the former things of old for I am God, and there is none like Me,” vs.10 “declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.” The Lord already knows what will take place either in His will or when we chose our will. Just as He told Abram in Genesis that he would be the father of many nations. Abram’s descendants would become rebellious and because of this, they would be enslaved 400 years. Genesis 15:13-14, “Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.” The Lord already knew what was going to happen. The disobedience of Abraham’s descendants caused them to go into captivity. However, the Lord told Abram of His plan to free them and judge that nation. We know that it was Pharaoh who took them into captivity. He was appointed by God but did not have the heart of God. Therefore, the Lord had to rescue His people (Abram’s descendants).

Bloodlines
Each king of Israel, Pharaohs of Egypt and the other kings in the Bible, all came from the same bloodline or lineage of that nation’s king. The Bible states the lineage of the different kings and we know that Saul was the first king of Israel. King Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin. After his reign, the kings of Israel were from the tribe of Judah, King David’s lineage. Although Saul and David were from different tribes, their lineage was the same. Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 states, “That which has been is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, “see, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us.” With that being said, most, if not all of our presidents here in the United States come from royal bloodlines from our mother country of England.

Is this a coincidence or is it God’s design? We know there is no such thing as a coincidence. If you research the topic, you will find out that many of our presidents are blood related. So how do we know if we will vote for the correct candidate that comes from the correct bloodline? We don’t know! Only the Lord knows. That’s why it is so vital to seek Him for instructions on which candidate to cast your ballot. Many voters base their decision or vote on the political party of the candidate. The political parties started out pure and innocent back in the day, but they have since turned into political parties for principalities in high places. They are no longer parties for the everyday person or even morals, values or simple right or wrong. No one party is better or outweighs the other because they are in the same boat, sharing paddles as they both travel down the stream together. Sure they make the fighting look good; using unsuspecting pawns (i.e. the media and others) but behind closed doors, just as the Lord showed Ezekiel (Ezekiel 8:7-17), things are not as they seem.

How do we search out the Lord’s divine counsel? We pray, seek His face and ask Him who we should vote for and obey His instructions. The Lord’s instructions are NEVER based on OUR feelings or emotions! Whoever is selected is the Lord’s choice to lead this nation. What if the person that the Lord told you to vote for loses? That’s not your concern. Why? Because you were obedient to the Lord’s instructions! That means He needed your obedience to accomplish His will. With all elections we must always seek the Lord’s instructions regarding whom we should cast our vote. Remember, our decision should never be based political affiliations or parties, only the will of God.
